a minor milestone
I rode my bike to and from my neighborhood farmers' market today. It was nice both to feel reasonably confident doing so (I'm still getting the hang of riding) and to feel I could spare the time for it.

For $20, I brought home
1 bundle of asparagus
1 bunch of chard
1 bunch of beets
1 quart of strawberries
1 pound of broccolini
2 fat tomatoes
Now to contemplate cooking the beet greens...

The back tire of the bike has gone flat again, and I need to learn how to repair it.
My attempt at poppies this spring was a washout. I will try again this fall. I am going to experiment with the Kentucky Colonel mint by transplanting one and pruning the other. Likewise, I will leave some of the bean plants where they are and move the sicklier-looking ones to the middle of the yard, where they will either revel in better drainage or get consumed by cottontails. Fortunately, I'm okay with either result. ;-)
I'd like to have some Chinese cabbage at hand, as there's a big bag of miso in my fridge.
